Scam Alert: Phising Telemarketing Call acting like Verizon Wireless

I got a call on my cell phone from 800-922-0204, which is an actual Verizon Wireless phone number.

The message comes on and says they are calling from Verizon Wireless, and that I am going to get a $30 credit if I go to a website my 30 gift dot com.

This didn’t sound right.

So, I started to dig a little.

First, I opened an incognito window (hides my personal info from the site) and went to the site.  This is what it looks like:

While it has some of the features of Verizon Wireless, it is not and that should be somewhat obvious.  Remember, this was a message asking to go to a non Verizon site.  That should be the first flag … the site is quite different … that should be the second … getting something randomly from a phone call … too good to be true.

The last thing I did was to call Verizon and let them know.  They verified that this isn’t real.

Looks like the company that set this up registered the domain 3 days ago and registered the domain in Europe using Arsys Internet.
